Watch out, looks like a ‘Stang across the street!
I found
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
and it’s piqued my interest. Looks cool and theoretically should be fast & fun with AWD and a turbo. At $1500 is that a nice price? And what motor would you swap in given the chance?
More of the car if the link doesn’t work:
Oh noes, not portrait :O
Portrait = instant crack pipe?
It looks pretty fun but also pretty tired. I’ve never seen a 1st-gen Eclipse which makes me want this more. What do y’all think?

Crank walk. Is possible it will need an all new engine.

Crank walk was 2g (95+) issue I believe. Still fear the non running dsm. Actually fear the dsm in general, awesome cars when they work though

Another 4g63. Easy (for a swap)
If no rust, NP. Future classic.

Get the Laser instead!
And then put a picture of Dr Evil on the hood!

The wheels are worth $400, but that is not a great example of these cars. You could find a much nicer one for probably the same price.

“Only a misfire” is how my own $1500 1G Laser turned into a $7k project that still isn’t road worthy. Don’t do it. I have a website set up to document my misery, nearly two years running.
Seriously though, you could definitely find a runner in that price range. They go for $2000 running with some mods already done all the time. Hunt around CL a little or try FB groups & forums as you can get some good deals that way as well. The biggest thing to watch out for is that owners tend to beat these things into the ground. A lot of the cars unreliable reputation comes from that or modding that isn’t done correctly/lack of supporting mods.
The nice thing is there’s a ton of information out there on how to do pretty much anything with these and working on them is easy. Expensive if you choose to completely rebuild pretty much the entire car and do it the correct way, but you’ll learn plenty when wrenching on them. 89-91 have pop-ups and 92-94 is my preferred style.
I don’t think there’s much reason to swap another engine in, if you can find a clean rebuilt 4G63 then I’d just throw that in. If I knew what I was doing when I started my rebuild journey I could have saved a ton going that route. If you wanted to be odd though, maybe an SR20DET?

It will be a while, I’m working on figuring out how I’m going to make this work and it’s outside covered in snow. I’m thinking make a template and spray paint it? I’ve got a crappy blue hood on the project car that doesn’t match the paint anyway, I was going to spray paint “because race car” on it as all the money went into the engine and such. I like this idea better. Here it is as it sits:

Yes, Dr Evil is much better than because racecar. Maybe make a template of Dr Evil and paint it that way. Or a big vinyl?

Yea, I’m thinking template. My fiance is an artist and is quite interested in the idea so I think we’ve got this one locked down!
